10 Things Every Car Owner Should Have

October 16th, 2024 by

Whether it comes to unpredictable weather, confusing navigation, or safety concerns, anything can happen on the road. Driving your own car is a big responsibility and it is important to always be prepared!

Here is a list of 10 things every car owner should have handy in their car:

1. License, insurance, and registration:

Make sure your information and papers are neatly organized and easily accessible. Remember to check that your paperwork is up to date!

2. Owner’s manual:

The information in an Owner’s Manual can be invaluable during emergency situations as each car differs by make and model and has unique operating directions.

3. First aid kit:

A simple “essentials” kit (bandages, medicines, gloves, scissors, etc.) can be useful in almost any situation – from small cuts to larger accidents.

4. Warm gear:

As the weather is always changing, especially in Wisconsin, it is always important to have warmer clothes (a set that you always keep in your car) to layer up in, as well as a blanket in case of emergencies.

5. Jumper cables:

It is always unexpected when a car battery dies, but having jumper cables can be helpful to accelerate the process of getting your car running again – especially when help isn’t readily available.

6. Cleaning supplies:

Simple supplies like paper towels, plastic bags (for makeshift trash cans), and a light cleaner can help keep your car tidy and organized.

7. Snowbrush or ice scraper:

These tools are essential for winter driving and can help quickly clear snow off a windshield, windows, etc. without causing unnecessary scratches or discomfort in the frigid Wisconsin weather.

8. Windshield wiper fluid:

While navigating different terrains and weathers, windshield wiper fluid is crucial in ensuring that your visibility on the road is clear. Always keep a backup to allow for easy refills in situations where you run out unexpectedly.

9. Spare change and cash:

Although much of our payment has become digital or with a card, it is still very important to keep that extra pocket change in your car as you never know when you’ll need the additional money (especially when traveling to new areas).

10. Tire pressure gauge:

A relatively inexpensive tool, a tire pressure gauge can be used to routinely check how much air has been lost and how much air should be added to your tire. Performing routine check-ins can help increase the longevity and functionality of your tires.

While these 10 items will help you be more prepared, or even prevent, unfavorable situations on the road, accidents or damage can inevitably occur.
